Planning & Zoning Board

Responsibilities

The Planning and Zoning Board deals in matters relating to zoning uses and development of land uses; investigates special studies; establishes principles, objectives and policies for the planned use and development of land; prepares and maintains plans for the future development of the City; conducts public hearings; reviews and makes recommendations for special exceptions and variances to the Board of Adjustment; reviews and makes recommendations for zoning district amendments, comprehensive plan amendments, site plans over three acres and subdivision plans and forwards recommendations to the City Council; reviews proposed ordinances and forwards recommendations to the City Council.

Composition
The Planning and Zoning Board for the City of West Melbourne is made up of seven volunteer members appointed by the City Council along with a non-voting School Board Appointed Member. Members of this Board serve for a period of two years (four seats are up for appointment on even numbered years and three seats are up for appointment on odd numbered years). None of the appointed members of the Planning and Zoning Board shall hold any other public office or position within the City and all members shall be residents of and registered voters within the City.
